i assume ur on a windows?

use all the tools in system, like disk defragmentor, or system clean up, also use tools to optimize your registry, because if its slow to retrieve info from there then everything slows down.

Also get spyboy search and destory to clean ur pc, antivirus

so aside from upgrading ur hardware and basic stuff like immort said u can always add virtual ram... i recommend about 5% of ur harddrive be added... i was 1.25tb at one time with roughly 70 gigs of virtual ram. now at that 1.25 i really only needed 63 gigs but i went the extra mile and let me tell you it made a difference... my speed picked up dramaticly just from the virtual ram addition alone.

straight from microsoft bro... that will tell u how to do it on all thier systems... but if your not using linux thats your real problem

EDIT: Oops, you said no software. Patience never was one of my virtues.

Get the following applications. Install them, love them, and become one with them.

Unlocker. Freeware. Make sure to install the win explorer function.

Raxco Perfectdisk. Set it to defrag in the background while your computer's inactive.

ESET antivirus/smart security. One of the best. Avira is also good.

I've heard memturbo is good as well as wintuner7, though I've never used either program.

For web browsing, I still favor firefox with noscript and firetune.

Hit me up in PM if you require DL links for any of these. I'll fix you right up.

I have five step for that..

Disk Clean up
Disk Defragmentet
Web browser cleanup
Increase virtual memory
Limit the number of programs that Run at windows startup
