Decision:
85% of the votes were cast to dump the shit topics, ban the bots and only to allow an uploaders group or other staff groups to be able to post in the XXX download section. This has been done and as a result the website is much faster now and the XXX section looking cleaner. This topic is now closed. We want to get the input of all staff and members of imafia, on several topics, the first and main one is how to re-awaken the beast which is our activity.

the second is as you may have noticed the downloads (warez we truncated from this site, we have been considering doing the same to the Adult section, minus the passwords and site rips) The reason we have been considering this is because realistically speaking there are thousands of bots which come here and spam all these downloads on a daily basis and thats the issue, they are bots.

We rather have a few hundred active members over several thousands active bots. If there is no discussion as of this weekend, admins will determine the fate of the adult downloads section!

If this is determined to happen sometime this week most likely Saturday we will have a little downtime while we clean up the database.

Keep in mind that the download section and these bots were the cause of our recent down time. They have grown our database so large it doesn't work properly under traditional formats which using a format that supports larger databases in turn slows down the site.

Do we truly need this section on our website? How many people actually use it? In the beginning ImaFia was strictly a security/cracking website with an xxx password section, we expanded and expanded so much that we didn't have the resources to keep it all going and as a result we've become inactive and it is now time to start trimming the fat and get back to what we used to once be

I feel it would b best to start a site specifically for the adult downloads section and use it to plug imafia :D

lets face it... it does generate a lot of traffic bot or not..

Make a set of uploaders...i.e. a group, who can only post at adult section/s! I for one would be applying for that too. But it would be your sole consideration to add someone or not.

im for the removal of the adult section as we dont have much activity in those sections, its better to divert all the resources to the other sections like hacking, passes and specially VIP

Removing the adult section will likely decrease member activity and subscriptions. If we can all live with that I have no problem with removing this section. But this could be counter productive to the first goal of increasing activity.

If this is not an active area how is it crashing the DB? And since nothing is hosted on Imafia why is a section that contains only links crashing the DB? How much do we have to truncate the topics to have stability and at what point does truncating become counter productive to goal #1.

Askinner: its active but in all reality it isn't real true activity. 99% of the posts in there are from bots. A large portion of this section is probably also dead links. You could make the same arguement with text files, sure they're small and individually they don't take up a whole lot of space generally but when you have a couple million of those text files they start to add up. Quite often this section gets filled up with shit that isn't even porn but no one ever sees it because there is so many bots posting in a day. The default format ipb uses is not intended for super huge databases and we got to the point where that format couldn't efficiently function, that's why the site crashed the other day and was down for over a day while we converted the database to a format that could handle larger size but in turn that format is not as fast.

pervman: we were discussing keeping a section open for people like you (and myself when im not lazy) to post things because we know you have shared a lot of stuff here with us.

Rollback: Just like what thinkstoomuch said, sure we could get recaptcha, its hard to crack, but due to existing features in IPB, it isn't necessarily manditory to login with captcha even if it is enabled (that is all I'm going to say in public about that to prevent us and other forums from being attacked).

I'll put it another way: we have more XXX video topics than pornbb does and thats their main thing.

We are not saying we are going to get rid of this section, we want input, ideas.

Right now here is what I am suggesting: We completely dump the section except for posts from REAL users (ie: people like pervman) and only allow uploaders to post in these sections and they MUST follow a set of posting guidelines that we should actually enforce because a lot of shit that is against our rules gets by us with our current setup. Posts that stay will need to be checked to ensure links are still alive.

Id rather it be enforced and those that actually spend time to upload have their stuff here.

The issue is as syntox said is its weeds, the good topics get hidden by the bad topics, or the ones which are spammed over thousands of boards. Why fill up our expensive server with this crap, since you can find it at 1000 other boards. The issue with cleaning a million topics we would need massive man power, i will look into a download checker tho, i might be able to just write one since i had written one on immortalxx.com and bring it here. and we can use that to clean this up.

It nice to actually have some people talking about this rather then just admins.

So far it looks like 90 perecent of the votes is leaning towards exclusive to uploaders. The poll will likey stay open till the weekend since we probaby won't do anything until then anyways.

Next question: how do you suggest we identify people as not bots so we don't delete their content when we do the massive bot cleanup?
